Story

Dear friends & family,

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!

I'm raising much-needed funds for kids living with HIV, a cause that is close to my heart, by taking part in the Little Black Dress Run 2014.

For your donation, I'll be running - rain or shine - in a fabulous little black outfit (!) - around Darling Harbour's Cockle Bay on Sunday February 16!  Please come along and join in the fun - and even more importantly - please consider making a donation to support me and my cause.

I welcome your contribution - no matter what amount - every single dollar makes a difference!

Your donation is safe and secure - it will be electronically wired to Sydney Children's Hospital Foundation - and you will receive an automatic receipt by email immediately.

Please help me make a difference by making a donation - every single dollar will help me to reach my target and, more importantly, helps kids living with HIV.

Thank you for your support!

LITTLE BLACK DRESS RUN is Sydney Frontrunner's annual fundraiser for CAMP GOODTIME at SYDNEY CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL FOUNDATION . It's a fun family and children-friendly event, and welcomes all comers: the gay and lesbian community, their partners, family, friends, kids – even their dogs! You don't even have to run – you can walk, stroll, or even rollerskate! And you don’t even have to wear a dress, although most people get into the spirit of the event and “frock up”.

CAMP GOODTIME BRINGS TOGETHER OVER 60 KIDS LIVING WITH HIV and their families from all over Australia. Run by the Paediatric HIV Service at Sydney Children’s Hospital since 1990, Camp Goodtime provides invaluable social, emotional and educational support for these children and their families. For the kids, it's four worry-free days filled with fun and surrounded by friends. And for many of the parents, it’s the only opportunity they have to meet others dealing with similar issues around HIV.

CAMP GOODTIME RELIES ENTIRELY ON DONATIONS and sponsorship to meet its running costs. Angela Miller, the senior social worker behind Camp Goodtime is grateful for the boost that the LBD Run gives to the camp’s funding: “We’re delighted and honoured that Sydney Frontrunners will once again be fundraising for Camp Goodtime. Without events such as the LBD Run, we would struggle to secure enough funds to facilitate our 3 camps per year. We receive no government funding, so every cent raised makes a difference to the kids and their families.”

A GRATEFUL PARENT says: “Leaving Camp Goodtime is always the hardest. I spent a week trying to convince my 7 year old that we couldn’t live there for ever!” A 14 year old who attends regularly says: “In terms of managing my HIV, I sometimes feel Camp Goodtime is more important than my medication!”

A COMMITTED VOLUNTEER comments: “They’re great kids - I can’t think of any other time of the year that I laugh as hard as I do while I’m at camp. For a few days they don’t have to worry about their HIV status, which many normally conceal from friends, neighbours and their school for fear of how people will react. Being a kid is hard enough without adding the burden of secrets to it.”

A GENEROUS DONOR notes: "These kids have so much to deal with - it's the least I can do to help them forget it all for just once a year. It's not a lot of money for me and and family to give individually - and it makes a huge difference to these families."
